We have just celebrated our 30th Birthday! Congratulations to everyone that is or has been involved with the club over the tri-decade.
Levels - 18 October 2008
Thanks to Daniel Patrick & Les Hitchcock

For the second meeting of the season we had 16 enter, but unfortunately Jim Little’s parts didn’t arrive from the States and Darryl Jordon discovered more issues with his engine and also had work commitments, so the field dropped to 14.
We welcomed back Greg Stewart and Bill Evans and were rapt to see that the first meeting didn’t put off our newcomers. Bob arrived with another motor in the Anglia, Stu managed to sort his problems and Manny’s crew replaced all the fuel system to eliminate the gremlins from the first meeting.
After a week of lovely, fine and hot weather, Saturday dawned cold and wet. We were lucky with the rain (much to Manny’s disgust) but the cold wind kept the people shivering and the track cold.

Qualifying:
Qualifying was delayed for about 20 minutes due to a major oil spill from one of the OSCA cars and it took the track crew a while to get the track safe. Because of this the cement dust was flying and made things difficult to see for a while and the times were down. Didn’t appear to slow Wayne Patrick though who managed a great time to end up on pole, followed by Manny, Jim Kelly, Roy & Greg Stewart.

Race 1:
Another delay due to a crash between two OSCA cars which meant that they had to repair the tyre wall. Brian Scott showed everyone the wrong way to warm up the tyres and managed to turn the car round on the warm up lap, then Bob followed suit on the first lap of the race which dropped him back a few places.
Wayne had a great start, left everyone for “dead” and managed to achieve the fastest time for the weekend of 1:11.98 – the rest of the field spread out and the only real battle was between Greg Lyons and Johno Michelle, with Johno managing to keep ahead. Greg Stewart pulled in because he lost the water pump belt

Race 2 – fine, but cool:
Reverse top 50% put Greg Lyons on pole and Johno beside him on two, followed by Roy, Jim K, Manny & Wayne P. Wayne got another great start and took less than a third of a lap to get to the front. Jim K chased Manny down and got through on him when he made an error then set his sights on Wayne and had caught up with him, but only because he had developed a “miss”.
Greg Stewart’s came in with mechanical issues, which turned out to be a run bearing.
The battle between Greg L & Johno continued with Bob poking his nose in just to keep them honest.
Bill Evans & Stu continued to have a great run and last but not least we had Ian Perry, Ray Hurst & Gary Parker keeping out of everyone’s way, until Gary had to come in due to a mechanical black flag.

Race 3 – reverse grid:
Bob rushed home to celebrate his wife’s birthday, so that left Johno & Greg L to continue on with their battle. Gary started on pole and held the lead until the hard charging Anglia of Stu Mitchell over took him. Stu managed to win the race just ahead of Roy Macdonald, due mainly to the fact that the marshalls couldn’t count and put the checkered flag out a lap early.
Brian Scott did well to hold off a hard charging Jim Kelly and Manny was close on Jim’s heels. Wayne got his car patched up enough to circulate and score some points.

All in all, it was another great racing weekend with no panel damage and hopefully the mechanical issues will be sorted in time for the next meeting at Levels on 16th November.
