We have just celebrated our 30th Birthday! Congratulations to everyone that is or has been involved with the club over the tri-decade.
Teretonga - 12+13 April 2008

Last meeting of the season and we were all hoping that the weather would not be like last weekend (except of course Manny), but we were pleasantly surprised (both days) when the sun shone and there was very little (if at all) wind.

Our field was slightly down to 15 cars and unfortunately Ian Perry, Greg Lyons & Mark Macdonald couldn’t make it due to work commitments and Angus had NZ V8 meetings, otherwise they would have joined us for the weekend.

Cliff was back out in Pete’s Farina and Brian was excited to be at his second meeting, but a bit nervous due to the fact that he hadn’t raced at Teretonga for a very long time. Our late (but very welcome) entrant was Stu Mitchell, from Otautau (Maurie’s friend) who has just bought the very first Anglia ever to be built and raced from Gareth who had bought it from the north island.

With the three hour endurance race being held on Saturday afternoon, we only had qualifying in the morning and had to get across the track before it started or we would have been stuck there for three hours.

Qualifying:

Steve, Wayne Patrick and Manny finished within seconds of each other, followed closely by Greg Stewart and Tuff. Bob came in early cause his engine blew and Ray had to tighten the muffler which wasn’t secured properly.

Stu had the normal teething issues that come associated with an unknown new car, but was chuffed with the drive.

We all packed up for the day and headed across the track. Most felt a bit lost (cause we had the afternoon off) as we don’t normally have time off.

That evening (thanks to Greg Stewart who booked a table for over 30 for most of us at the Cobb & Co) we had a great night of fun and good company.

Race 1 - Sunday:

Very busy for our team as Scorch had the Formula 5000 at the track for testing, but we managed to deputise a pit crew for him and he jumped out of the Mustang and jumped into the Lola as the races were one after another. We think that he may have lost a couple of pounds weight!

The weather again was beautiful and hotter than yesterday. Scorch got pole, but he was narrowly beaten by the ever quicker Wayne Patrick. Tuff was next followed by Greg Stewart, Manny, Roy, Barry, Johno, Bill, Stu, Brian, Cliff and Ray. Maurie was the only non-finisher.

Race 2:

With the top half being reversed, Barry was on pole, but Roy got a good start and managed to hold out the faster V8’s for the first lap until they got the better of him. Again it was good racing, but Bill Evans didn’t start due to lending some of his race parts to Maurie and Stu didn’t finish – more teething problems!

Winner of this race was Scorch, followed by Tuff, Greg Stewart, Wayne Patrick, Manny, Roy, Barry, Johno, Maurie, Brian, Ray and Cliff.

Race 3 – reverse grid:

There was a half hour delay to the start of this race as a car in the previous race had dumped a whole lot of oil round the track and it took the officials a while to clean it up.

Ray & Cliff started off first, but were quickly overtaken by Johno & Maurie. The rest of the team came through for a great finish with Johno taking the win, followed by Maurie, Wayne P, Roy, Scorch, Greg S, Brian, Barry, Ray and Cliff. Manny didn’t start due to fuel pump issues and Tuff came in with a blown rear wheel cylinder.
All over for another season. We are all looking forward to the agm & prizegiving at the Brinkleys Resort in Methven on 14th June 08.
